Dear ASV Members,
Thank you for being an ASV member this past year. We greatly appreciate your loyalty and support. ASV is dedicated to serving independent tax and accounting professionals and
fought hard for the right of unlicensed practitioners to call themselves “Accountants” in the State of Virginia. It is time to renew your ASV membership and your commitment to
the success of your business and to the future of independent tax and accounting professionals.
Membership dues have not increased in 11 years, even though costs have risen annually! With that being said, you will notice a modest increase in your membership dues this year.
During this year, your Society will be offering additional member-only, cost saving benefits as well as cutting edge self-study and seminar options. If you have not been to our web site lately, and/or have not joined the ASV Exchange, please do so. We are in the process of adding a “Members Only” section that will contain discounts to members. This will become available later in the new membership year. We will continue adding benefits to this section as they become available.

Membership Categories
- Active Members: are required to meet continuing education requirements, completing a minimum of 60 CPEs in each three (3) year reporting cycle. Active Members must be in public
practice and meet at least one of the following requirements:
- must be in public practice.
- must possess a valid permit/license as a Certified Public Accountant or such other title as may be granted under state law for the practice of accountancy for the public.
- must be accredited in accountancy or taxation by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy.
- must be enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.
- must possess either an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting.
- has 3+ years experience in public Accounting and/or Taxation. Within 5 years of joining, the applicant must meet at least one of the criteria for Active Membership outlined above.
- Associate Members: are not eligible to vote or hold office, do not need to meet continuing professional education requirements, and must meet one of the following requirements:
- are an owner, partner or employee of an accounting and/or tax firm and do not meet Active Membership requirements.
- are an individual employed in government, a financial institution, private sector businesses, or a non-profit entities whose primary duties are in the field of accountancy.
- are retired members who have attained the age of 65 or over, and who are retired from public practice.
- Out-of-State Members: reside and conduct business out of state and shall have the same rights as Associate Members.
- Student Members: are currently enrolled in an Accounting Education Program and shall have the same rights as Associate Members.
